DELGADO, MIRANDA-FRED EARN SENIOR MEDALS AT TEXAS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS; CHHABRA WINS JUNIOR TITLE

The University of Texas Weightlifting Team had twelve team members compete at the Texas State Championships on January 13 & 14th in San Antonio, TX. The team earned two junior medals, including one State Junior Champion in the Women’s 49kg class, Tara Chhabra, and a bronze junior medal in the Men’s 67kg class, James Singhal.

On the Senior side, the men’s team had two 109kg medals. Victor Delgado earned silver and Fernando Miranda-Fred earned bronze! They join a strong list of male lifters who have claimed senior titles while at UTexas.

MEN’S & WOMEN’S TEAMS WIN UNIVERSITY REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Texas Women’s Weightlifting Team took the team title for the second year in a row while the Men’s Team came back from second place last year to earn their first team title. The Women’s Team walked away with 4 Regional titles in the 45, 59, 71 and 87+ categories, as well as earning 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. Brie Gomez also claimed Best Female Lifter for the second straight year! The Men’s Team made 80 percent of their lifts, earning 3 Regional titles in the 96, 109 and 109+ categories. They also walked away with 5 silver medals and 1 bronze medal!

Community Involvement

Our team members strive to contribute to the community as much as they contribute to weightlifting. The team is involved in notable groups on and off campus, like Genesis, Longhorn Racing, Texas Hillel, UT CS Ambassadors, Dell Med Health Leadership Apprentice Program and Texas Athletics.
