2021 Texas Collegiate Invitational

Competitors: Brie Gomez, Caroline Hittler, Kevin Ma, Fernando Miranda-Fred, Ebin Punchamannil, Aaron Xu

It was a big weekend at the Texas Collegiate Invitational with six athletes competing (and many other team members showing to help load, referee and run a smooth meet). The highlights of the competition: the scintillating main event of Aaron vs Ebin that lived up to the hype, Brie’s Big Day, and first time competition performances for Caroline, Kevin and Fernando!

The epic battle of the light weights at their firs ever weightlifting meet lived up to the hype!

Aaron Xu went 6 for 6, hitting a 56kg snatch PR, 66kg clean and jerk PR with a 122kg total at 57.1kg BW.

Ebin Punchamannil also went 6 for 6, hitting 60kg snatch PR match, 71kg clean & jerk PR and a 131kg total at 65.3kg BW.

Result: Draw. Rematch TBD!

Meanwhile, Brie saw an all-time best performance, going 5 for 6 and taking gold in the upperclassman division and won best overall female lifter! Brie hit a competition snatch PR at 75kg followed by an all-time clean and jerk PR at 92kg, ending the day with a PR total at 167kg. Brie clean & jerk and total were enough to earn herself those two team records in the Women’s 64kg Class!

Caroline, Kevin and Fernando all made their competition debuts! Caroline led the way going 6 for 6 with 44/56/100 performance, earning bronze in the underclassman division! Kevin and Fernando followed that up, both going 4 for 6 in their first competitions. Kevin went 45/58/103, finishing with a clean & jerk PR. Fernando snatched 75kg, clean & jerked 95kg for a 170kg total!
