2021 Longhorn Invitational

On October 3rd, the University of Texas Weightlifting Team held their first-ever on-campus weightlifting competition, comprised entirely of collegiate weightlifting athletes. The Longhorn Invitational had 36 weightlifters total from Austin Community College, Boston University, Texas A&M, Texas State University, University of Houston - Downtown, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, University of St. Augustine and University of Texas. This was the first meet of the 2021-2022 Texas Collegiate Weightlifting season. Texas State University is set to host their invitational in November with Tarleton State Weightlifting in January. University of Mary-Hardin Baylor will host an invitational in spring of 2022.

The University of Texas Weightlifting Team saw several amazing performances at the Longhorn Invitational:

Big PR performances for Brie and Jacob at the Longhorn Invitational! Brie went 5 for 6, including a huge 97kg clean and jerk PR! Her 76/97/173 performance was a 6kg total PR and earned her first place overall and first place in the Upperclassman division! Jacob Cadieux went 96/125/221 on a 4 for 6 day. His total increased by 15kg! Jacob also had the most fantastic misses of the day with wildly entertaining third attempts at 100kg and 130kg.

Victor, Maanas, and Blake punched their tickets to the 2022 University National Championships in Columbus, Ohio with their performances at the 2021 Longhorn Invitational! Victor snatched 116kg, clean & jerked 134kg, for a 250kg total and earned silver in the Underclassman division! Maanas went 6 for 6 with competition PRs all around, ending at 88/118/206 for a 12kg total PR! Blake Gamez turned in another 6 for 6 day going 87/113/200! Blake’s performance earned him silver in the Upperclassman division, and bronze overall!

Ebin and Eleni turned in big PR performances at the Longhorn Invitational that ended with all-time PR clean and jerks! Ebin went 63/82/145 on a 5 for 6 day and finished with a 14kg PR total! Eleni went 48/65/113 on a 6 for 6 day and finished with a 4kg PR total!
